Act For Association

April 10, 2012 by pearl

On Tuesday 1st of May the WA Legislative Council will resume and the first thing they will be discussing is the proposed ‘anti-association’ law.

This bill is the latest move from a government that has shown little to no respect for the civil rights of ordinary Western Australians, and follows in the footsteps of policies such as mandatory sentencing, stop and search powers, prohibited behaviour orders and CHOGM exclusion orders.

In 2009 you helped defeat the proposed stop and search legislation, which sought to remove the need for reasonable suspicion in police searches. We need your help again to do the same to the anti-association bill.

Please join Search For Your Rights in our Act for Association.

Starting from today Search For Your Rights will be timing a series of simple acts to show our elected officials that we will not stand for yet another unwarranted, unjustified and unproven restriction on our rights.

Please join us, and together we can once again show the WA Parliament that contrary to what they think, we do give a shit about what they do to our rights.

The event page where you can be updated on the acts that you can do in support of association can be found here . Alternatively, each act will be added to the website as they are released.

Very sad state of events when we have Australian Defence Force Personnel being killed and mamed trying to free other people from opression in other countries. We now have our own Politicians (Public Servants) trying to bring in very bad legislation that will only lead to corruption and victimisation of groups in our coimmunity. Bikies are being Demonised to get this legislation through parliment. I think the fishing net will broaden quickly if introduced.
    Bad Goverment / Bad Legislation

  6. Marg says:

We as citizens must not allow these proposals to become law – it is against all human civil rights. If this is to be, then huge sections of the community will have be targeted, not only bikies. This is wrong, very very wrong.

  7. JayT says:

No government should be allowed to do this criminal act of descrimination of a group of people. This is not an honest government, they want dictator powers.

  8. Joy says:

“Innocent until proven guilty” is this not the law in this country. Well then how come the ‘law’ in the guise of government in W.A. is planning to legislate “Guilty no matter what”!
If an individual has committed a crime or offence, he should be charged and punished accordingly, BUT by all reasons of humanity and justice all those associated with this person/s cannot be charged let alone assumed guilty and thrown into prison without fair trial.
Is it not the law in this country When one has been found guilty of a crime and does time in prison – without fault – and when released back into society never commits again but leads a life of good conduct and works and pays his/her taxes and is a good citizen, then this person must be left alone to continue their life. This is just and correct.
But NO says Barnett and Porter, we must pursecute these individuals for ever more, because they have no rights.
What is justice and truth and rights and the true meaning of discrimination if this is allowed to happen. SAY NO WE DO NOT ALLOW THIS – use our voices.
